Eastern Michigan University
Eastern Michigan University is a co-educational, public university located in Ypsilanti, Mich. Comprising its student body are over 18,200 undergraduates and over 4,700 graduate students. Its Academic Advising Center provides help and guidance to students and faculty through a variety of activities. The Center's four major focus areas are: academic advising, retention support, academic actions and academic services. Students can schedule their sessions both in-person and by phone.
Prior to using Appointment-Plus, the Center scheduled student appointments in a more traditional manner: a pen and appointment book. The book was passed among the Center's staff, making it an inefficient way of managing appointments. The Center did not utilize any appointment-scheduling software in its operations.
The Center determined that the current manner in which it took appointments was not sufficient for its needs. Although the university itself provided scheduling software to various departments, it did not meet the specific requirements of the Center. The overall goal of the new system was to make its internal scheduling more efficient and allow staff to set multiple appointments simultaneously. Staff member April Marshall sums up their needs by stating the Center "needed to get into the 21st Century."
A staff colleague recommended Appointment-Plus scheduling software to the Academic Advising Center. Appointment-Plus is helping Eastern Michigan University Academic Advising Center better manage its student advisement sessions. The Center still internally schedules its walk-in and phone appointment requests, which are now easier to maintain and access in a secure, centralized location. Appointment-Plus also allows staff to schedule several appointments at the same time, a task that makes the Center run more efficiently. The Center utilizes the automated e-mail system to remind students of their upcoming appointments. Overall, Appointment-Plus "really fits the needs" of the Center.
